Tackling Fraud

From 2007 - 2011, Steve arrested 3,000 fraudsters. He’ll do it again.

The Insurance Commissioner directs the investigation and prosecution of companies, licensees, and consumers accused of fraud and other insurance code violations.

Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime, as the costs of insurance fraud is passed on to consumers in the form of higher rates.  

  • Department of Insurance Fraud Division has hundreds of law enforcement personnel, including undercover units, to investigate and make arrests across all lines of insurance.
  • In his first term from 2007-2011, Steve Poizner aggressively went after insurance fraud by increasing the number of fraud officers and investigators in the Department of Insurance, worked closely with District Attorneys around the state, and arrested near 3000 alleged fraudsters, a record, saving tens of millions of consumer dollars in the process.
  • In his 2nd term, Steve will once again aggressively go after insurance fraud by ramping up the fraud division by filling vacancies, hiring more investigators, and addressing the new threat of fraud from cyber criminals.
